John W. Mack Jr., MD
Dr. Mack, who came to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville in 1985, is also affiliated with the Chest Service of UT.
A 1968 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, Dr. Mack entered the Medical College of Virginia, earning the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1972. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, completing a surgical internship and residency at Davis Grant USAF Medical Center located at Travis Air Force Base. Dr. Mack also completed residencies in cardiothoracic surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center and the University of California Medical Center both located in San Francisco.
He held clinical and academic appointments at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas before joining the faculty and medical staff of the University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville.
Dr. Mack is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He holds memberships in the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgery and the Southern Thoracic Surgery Association.
